Here we are at the holiday season again! Although many will be spending their holidays with family, there are also a number of us who will be spending time with other Mensans. No matter whom you are spending your holidays with, even if it's just "me, myself, and I", I do encourage you to keep the folks in Afghanistan and Iraq, and indeed, all of our service people, in your thoughts.
Hopefully there will be many parties listed elsewhere in the newsletter in which you're reading this. I expect that there will be - we do have a great group of folks here in the Far West Region. I do encourage you to attend at least a few of them - especially if you've never been to a Mensa event before. If the host or hostess has decided to enter the Region 9 "Attendance Competition", please be sure to sign in! (As Russ Bakke always says at the AMC meetings, "if you didn't sign the attendance sheet, you weren't here!") Greg and Lisa Northcutt, of Utah Mensa, have the honor of getting the first entry to me, for their Halloween Party on October 27. I hope to see several more over the next few weeks!
I've appointed Susan Daggett (from Utah Mensa) as the new "Webmistress" for the Region 9 website. If you don't recall, it's at region9.us.mensa.org - and has, amongst other things, the rules and entry forms for the Attendance Competition. Susan has improved the website, and, I'm sure, will continue to improve it. One of the "new" things is that this column will also be available there (along with the past editions of it).
I'm certainly looking forward to StaRGazing 2008, the Greater Los Angeles Area Mensa RG February 15 through 18. I really enjoyed that one last year!
I'm told that the preregistration for MindGames, April 11-13 in Phoenix, is going quite well. This is one of the few Mensa events where they limit attendance, so if you want to attend, registering early is a good idea.
And, of course, further out, San Diego is planning an RG in May, the AG this year will practically be in Region 9 being in Denver, and there's the Tucson/Borderline RG. And I still want to have an LDW in the Region in 2008. And I will be attending the AMC meeting Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in West Palm Beach, FL, and the one Mar. 28-30 in San Francisco.
No matter which of the holidays this month you choose to celebrate ("all of them" is certainly a valid choice!), I want to wish you "Happy Holidays!"
If you need to get in touch with me, please feel free to do so. E-mail is generally best, but "snail mail" or telephone will work too. (If you get my answering machine, please leave a message and I'll call you back.)
